20L Vertical Wooden Wine Barrel w/ Faucet&Bracket for storing whiskey, rum, brandy

About this barrel

Home fermenters often go looking for an oak barrel for making vinegar. This new 20L vertical barrel with faucet and bracket is one option, though the seller lists it mainly for whiskey, rum and brandy.

Can I use this oak barrel for making vinegar?

Oak is a traditional choice for wine and cider vinegar, and the faucet makes it easy to draw off finished vinegar. Keep in mind that once a barrel has held vinegar, it shouldn't go back to spirits or wine.

• Vinegar needs air, so ask the seller how the top or bung opening works for venting.
• Swell the barrel with water before first use.
• Find out whether the interior is charred. Char flavors vinegar differently than plain oak.
• With 20 liters of space, you can keep an ongoing batch going with a vinegar mother.
