1 Handmade 2 Liter. Pre-charred Oak Barrel - Wine & Bourbon Barrel

About this barrel

A 2 liter oak barrel is a popular first size for aging at home. This handmade, pre-charred one is listed new at $64.94. The charred layer inside adds color and toasty notes to bourbon, whiskey or a bold red wine.

How long should spirits sit in a 2 liter charred oak barrel?

Small barrels give each ounce more contact with the wood, so they work faster than full-size casks. Start tasting after a week or two. Bottle when you like the flavor instead of following a fixed schedule.

• Swell first: fill it with water and let the staves tighten before you add spirits.
• Char level: the title doesn't give the char level, so check the listing.
• Extras: confirm whether a spigot, bung or stand comes with it.
• Reuse: later fills age more gently as the wood gives up its flavor.
