American White Oak 50 Gallon Barrels Never Used

About this barrel

A new 50 gallon American white oak barrel holds about 189 liters. That's full-size cooperage, the kind used by wineries, breweries, distillers and serious home producers. The barrels in this listing are marked never used, at $75.

Why does size matter when aging in a 50 gallon oak barrel?

Big barrels age more slowly than mini barrels because each gallon has less contact with the wood. You get a steadier, gentler oak flavor over a longer time.

• At this price, check exactly what the $75 covers and whether it's for one barrel.
• The title doesn't give a toast or char level. Ask the seller before you plan a wine or spirits batch.
• Swell a new barrel with water before filling to tighten the staves.
• Unused full-size barrels also make good material for furniture or planters.
