500L / 132 Gal. puncheon Oak Wine Barrel cold water plunge barrel, storage

About this barrel

A 500L oak puncheon cold plunge barrel is a popular DIY route to a backyard ice bath. This used 132-gallon wine puncheon is listed for exactly that, or for storage. For $374.00, you get a large former wine barrel with room to sit, soak or store gear.

Can a used wine puncheon work as a cold water plunge?

Many buyers convert them. A barrel that has sat empty may leak until the staves swell, so fill it with water and give it several days before you judge whether it's tight.

• Plan the cut: most plunge builds remove one head, so confirm whether this one is still whole.
• Check the interior: wine residue may need a good scrub before you climb in.
• Get dimensions: ask the seller for height and diameter to make sure it fits your deck and your body.
• Logistics: a 500L barrel is heavy and bulky, so read the listing's shipping or pickup terms.
