About this barrel

If rum is your spirit of choice, this oak rum barrel gives you 20 liters of room, plus a faucet and bracket. It's listed new at $95.50 and also named for whiskey and brandy.

How do you get started with a rum barrel?

Begin with water. Fill the new oak barrel to swell the staves, let it sit, and make sure it holds before any spirit goes in. Then pour, sample every so often, and bottle when the oak flavor lands where you like it.

• Size: 20.0L, a medium barrel that is larger than mini kegs.
• Design: vertical, so it takes up floor space instead of shelf space.
• Hardware: faucet and bracket are in the title; check the listing for exact fittings.
• Details to confirm: char level and any inside treatment.
