20L Vertical Wooden Wine Barrel w/ Faucet&Bracket for storing whiskey, rum, brandy

About this barrel

If you want to age rum in an oak barrel at home, consider this 20L vertical cask. It comes with a faucet and a bracket so it can stand upright. It's listed new at $95.50, and the title names whiskey, rum and brandy as uses.

Is a 20L size good for aging rum in an oak barrel?

Twenty liters is a medium barrel. It holds enough for a proper batch, and it has more wood per liter than a big cask, so oak flavor tends to show up sooner. That makes it a practical middle ground for a first rum project.

• Start with a white or lightly aged rum and taste it regularly.
• Use the faucet to pull small samples without disturbing the batch.
• The char or toast level isn't given, so confirm it in the listing.
• Soak the barrel with water first to seal the staves.
