20L Vertical Wooden Wine Barrel w/ Faucet&Bracket for storing whiskey, rum, brandy

About this barrel

An oak barrel for making vinegar gives wine or cider vinegar a mellow, woody depth. This 20L vertical model with a faucet and bracket makes it simple to draw off finished vinegar. The title lists it for spirits, but oak suits vinegar too. It's new on eBay at $95.50.

Can a 20L cask serve as an oak barrel for making vinegar?

Yes, but commit to it. Vinegar bacteria stay in the wood, so once a barrel has held vinegar it shouldn't go back to wine or spirits.

• Vinegar needs air, so ask the seller whether the top opening can take a breathable cover.
• Use the faucet to draw vinegar without disturbing the mother.
• Swell the barrel with water first.
• Confirm the faucet material in the listing, because vinegar is acidic.
