20L Vertical Wooden Wine Barrel w/ Faucet&Bracket for storing whiskey, rum, brandy

About this barrel

Homebrewers chasing a woody, spirit-kissed finish can use a 20L oak barrel for aging beer. This vertical barrel comes with a faucet and bracket and is listed new at $95.50. Its title mentions whiskey, rum and brandy. One approach is to season it with spirit before filling it with a big stout.

Which styles suit a 20L oak barrel for aging beer?

Strong, dark styles like imperial stouts and barleywines handle oak well. Sours are an option too, but wild yeast and bacteria stay in the wood. If you go that route, use the barrel only for sours from then on.

• A 20L barrel holds roughly one standard 5-gallon homebrew batch.
• Swell it with water and check the faucet for leaks.
• Keep it full to limit oxygen exposure.
• Ask the seller about the char level before filling.
