What order should you fill an oak barrel for whiskey, rum and brandy?

Each fill leaves a trace in the wood. A common plan is to start with a bold spirit while the oak is most active. Later, move to spirits that benefit from a gentler touch and a hint of what came before.

• First fill: a robust spirit that can stand up to fresh oak.
• Later fills: try rum or brandy to pick up some whiskey character.
• Keep notes on each fill and how long it stayed in.
• Never let the barrel sit dry between fills.

One barrel can give you several projects, all covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee.
