5L/1.32Gal Aging Barrel Wooden Whiskey Barrel Bourbon Wine Barrel Home

About this barrel

A 5L oak barrel for aging whiskey at home is a simple way to give store-bought spirit more oak character. This new 1.32 gallon option is listed at $38.88 by an independent eBay seller.

Can you really age whiskey at home in a 5L oak barrel?

Yes, that is what this size is for. Smaller barrels give the liquid more wood contact, so changes show up sooner than in a standard barrel. Taste and adjust as you go.

• Swell the barrel with water before adding spirit.
• Pick a char level and confirm it in the listing.
• Keep the barrel topped up and clean.
• Write down start dates and tasting notes.
