Thousand Oaks Barrel 1 Gallon Charred Oak Bourbon Aging Barrel

About this barrel

Looking for a 1 gallon charred oak bourbon barrel with a recognizable maker's name on it? This new Thousand Oaks Barrel cask holds about 3.8 liters. That's a handy size for finishing store-bought whiskey or aging your own white spirit at home.

What does a charred interior do in a 1 gallon bourbon barrel?

Charring caramelizes sugars in the oak, and that's where much of bourbon's vanilla, caramel and toasty color comes from. In a barrel this small, those notes show up within weeks rather than years.

• Soak it with water until the leaks stop before the first fill.
• Start tasting after a week or two and bottle when the flavor suits you.
• The title doesn't give the char level or list accessories, so read the listing details.
• Later fills extract flavor more slowly, so the barrel keeps working across several batches.

It's listed new at $159.43 by an independent eBay seller.
