3 Liter Charred American White Oak Aging Barrel Whiskey Bourbon Wine Cask

About this barrel

For a bourbon-style flavor in a manageable size, consider this 3 liter charred American white oak barrel. It's listed new at $160.80 by an independent eBay seller, and the title names whiskey, bourbon and wine as uses.

What does char add in a 3 liter charred American white oak barrel?

Charring caramelizes sugars in the wood and creates a carbon layer that can smooth out harsh edges. The result is an amber color and a sweet, toasty flavor. In a small 3 liter cask, those changes come quickly.

• Start tasting young whiskey within the first couple of weeks.
• For wine, expect strong oak flavor from a charred barrel, and taste often.
• The title doesn't give a char level, so check the listing or ask the seller.
• Swell the barrel with water before filling to seal the staves.
