Oak barrel 5 l(1.32 Gall) (M+) Whiskey Brandy Wine Beer Sake Rum Bourbon

About this barrel

This 5 liter oak barrel (1.32 gallons, per the title) is listed for a wide range of drinks: whiskey, brandy, wine, beer, sake, rum and bourbon. It's new and offered by an independent eBay seller at $170.99. At 5L, it sits in a handy middle ground for home aging.

How fast does a 5 liter oak barrel age spirits?

Slower than a 1 to 2 liter mini, but faster than a large cask. Start tasting after a couple of weeks and adjust from there.

• “M+” in the title: the title doesn't explain it, so check the description or ask the seller.
• Plan your fills: wine or beer flavors carry into later batches, so decide the order before you start.
• Prep: swell the barrel with water before the first fill to seal the staves.
• Accessories: confirm whether a stand, tap or bung is included.
