10L Oak barrel, European quality

About this barrel

Titled simply as a 10L oak barrel of “European quality,” this new listing gives few details, so it's worth reading the full description. It's priced at $160.68 by an independent eBay seller. The 10 liter capacity leaves room for larger batches of spirits, wine or vinegar.

What should you confirm before buying this 10L oak barrel?

The title doesn't list the type of oak, where it's from, its toast or char, or any accessories. Check each of these in the listing.

• Wood and treatment: ask about toast or char if you plan to age spirits.
• Fittings: look for a stand, bung and spigot in the photos.
• Aging speed: 10 liters ages more slowly than a mini, which suits longer projects.
• Prep: swell it with water until it stops leaking before filling.
