Balazs New Hungarian Oak Barrel - 3L (0.79 gal)

About this barrel

Want to try Hungarian oak without committing to a big batch? The Balazs new Hungarian oak barrel, 3L (0.79 gal), is listed new by an independent eBay seller for $190.00.

Why choose a 3 liter Hungarian oak barrel?

At 3 liters, there's a lot of wood for the amount of liquid, so the oak shows up quickly. Hungarian oak is generally known for a subtler, spicier profile than American oak, which works well for wine, brandy and lighter spirits.

• Capacity: 3 liters, or about 0.79 gallons, per the title.
• Prep: fill it with water and wait for the staves to swell shut before using it.
• Watch the clock: a mini barrel can over-oak quickly, so taste every few days.
• Ask about: toast level and any included stand or spigot.
