Hammer & Axe Wooden Whiskey Barrel 800ml Oak Aging Cask Spirits Dispenser 27oz

About this barrel

The Hammer & Axe 800ml oak aging barrel holds about 27oz, which is about as small as home casks get, and that's the point. An eBay seller lists this new mini whiskey barrel at $30, and it's also sold as a spirits dispenser.

Why pick an 800ml oak aging barrel over a bigger one?

Speed. In a tiny barrel, more oak touches each ounce of spirit, so color and flavor build in weeks instead of months.

• Taste often. A small cask can make a spirit too oaky quickly.
• Fill it with water first and let the wood swell so it doesn't seep.
• The title doesn't give a char level, so check the listing.
• It holds a little more than a standard bottle, which makes it handy for test batches of bourbon, rum or cocktails.
