5L 1.32 Gallon Wood Wine Barrel Brewing Storage Keg Container for Beer Whiskey

About this barrel

The seller calls this 5L wood wine barrel a brewing storage keg. It's a new oak container for holding and aging beer, whiskey or wine, with a capacity of 1.32 gallons, priced at $38.88. The compact barrel shape also looks good on a home bar.

Is a wood wine barrel keg good for storing beer?

It's better for aging than for serving. A wooden keg isn't pressurized, so it won't keep beer carbonated the way a steel keg does. Beer also picks up oak and oxygen in wood, so keep its stays short. Spirits can stay in much longer.

• Swell the barrel with water before filling.
• Keep it full and cool to slow oxidation.
• Check the listing for spigot, bung and stand details.
• Rinse and refill it soon after emptying so the wood stays tight.
