5L/1.32Gal Aging Barrel Wooden Whiskey Barrel Bourbon Wine Barrel Home

About this barrel

Finishing your own spirits in a 5 liter bourbon barrel is one of the easiest ways to play distiller at home. This new oak barrel holds 1.32 gallons and is listed by an independent eBay seller for $35.50.

How long should bourbon sit in a 5 liter barrel?

Much less time than in a full-size cask. Small barrels put more wood in contact with each ounce, so start tasting after a week or two and bottle it when you like the flavor.

• Good things to try: young bourbon, unaged corn whiskey, or a batch of barrel-aged Manhattans or Negronis.
• Prep: swell it with water before the first fill to stop leaks.
• Reuse: later fills pick up oak more slowly as the barrel gets used.
• Unknowns: check the listing for the char level and included hardware.
