Antique 19thC Wood Barrel Hand Hewn Oak Copper Riveted Primitive Farmhouse Keg

About this barrel

An antique oak barrel like this one works as a conversation piece before it works as anything else. The listing describes a 19th-century hand hewn oak keg with copper riveted details and a primitive farmhouse look, offered by an independent eBay seller for $255.00.

Can you age spirits in an antique wooden keg?

Treat it as decor unless the seller says it is watertight. Century-old wood may have dried out, and the listing doesn't state a liner or capacity. For aging whiskey, wine or vinegar, a new barrel that you swell with water before filling is the safer path.

• Wood: oak, with hand hewn construction noted in the title.
• Size: not given as a number, so look for height and diameter in the listing.
• Condition: check the photos for cracks, loose staves and wear or corrosion on the copper rivets.
• Where it fits: mantels, porches, entryways or a rustic kitchen corner.
