VTG Ship/Field Primitive Wooden Six Banded Barrel Ration Handled Keg Cask

About this barrel

Built with six bands and a handle, this vintage ration keg is described as a ship or field cask, the sort of primitive wooden vessel associated with carrying provisions. An independent eBay seller lists it at $275, and the condition isn't specified, so read the description carefully.

How do you judge the condition of a vintage ration keg?

With no condition listed, photos are your best evidence. Zoom in and ask questions before committing.

• Count all six bands and look for any that are loose or missing.
• Check the handle attachment for cracks or repairs.
• Ask about the keg's size, which isn't given.
• Look for stamps or markings that hint at its origin.

It suits a nautical-themed room, a cabin shelf or a collection of maritime and military antiques, where its handled oak build becomes a conversation starter.
