Small Oak Aging Barrel 2L for Whiskey Bourbon Rum Tequila

About this barrel

New to barrel aging? A small oak aging barrel like this 2L one makes a practical first cask. It fits on a counter and holds a little less than three standard bottles. The seller lists it for whiskey, bourbon, rum and tequila. It's new and priced at $101.09.

How do you prepare a 2L oak barrel for the first fill?

Fill it with warm water and let it sit until the wood swells and any leaking stops. This can take a day or more. Then drain it and add your spirit.

• Tequila and spiced rum are popular first things to try.
• Check the listing for the char or toast level, which shapes the flavor.
• Check whether a spigot and stand are included.
• Taste weekly, because small barrels age spirits fast.
