5L/1.32Gal Aging Barrel Wooden Whiskey Barrel Bourbon Wine Barrel Home Brewer

About this barrel

Homebrewers who want to add wood character to a batch can start with this new 5L oak barrel for home brewers. At 1.32 gallons and $31.88, it's sized for part of a beer batch, a test batch of homemade wine or a few bottles of bourbon.

Can a 5L oak barrel for home brewers age beer?

Yes. Many brewers first season a barrel with spirit so the beer picks up both oak and whiskey notes. The barrel is small, so keep a close eye on the taste.

• Swell it with water before any use, then sanitize it the way you normally would for brewing.
• Keep the barrel full to limit oxygen exposure.
• The title doesn't mention char level or hardware, so check the listing.
• Once it's used up, the barrel can go on to vinegar making.
