About this barrel
Pre-owned and listed at $42.90, this 3L oak aging barrel suits home bourbon makers who want a mini cask without paying for a new one. A used barrel may also carry traces of what it aged before, which some hobbyists see as a bonus.
What should you check on a used 3 liter bourbon barrel?
Ask what it held and how long it has been empty. A dried-out barrel usually needs a longer water soak before it seals again.
- Inspect: look at photos of the staves, the hoops and inside the bung hole.
- Accessories: the title doesn't mention a spigot, bung or stand, so ask.
- Swell test: fill it with water and watch for drips over a few days.
- Mini barrel pace: 3L ages fast, so taste regularly to avoid too much oak.
A budget-friendly second-hand cask. The eBay Money Back Guarantee covers the sale.
