3 LITER FRENCH OAK BARREL Tequila Rum Whiskey Moonshine MEDIUM CHAR #3 (.79 gal)

About this barrel

This 3 liter French oak barrel has a medium #3 char, and the seller lists it for tequila, rum, whiskey and moonshine. At about 0.79 gallons it holds as much as four standard 750 ml bottles, a practical middle size for aging at home.

Why pick a 3 liter French oak barrel with #3 char?

French oak usually has a tighter grain than American oak. It tends to give spicier, subtler flavors with less vanilla. A #3 char is in the middle of the range: enough for color and sweetness without overpowering lighter spirits like blanco tequila or white rum.

• It's a new barrel, so soak it or fill it with water to swell the staves before adding spirit.
• A 3L barrel ages more slowly than a 1L but still far faster than full-size casks.
• It's a good way to take moonshine or unaged rum and make it smoother.
• Check the listing photos to see whether a stand, spigot and bung are included.
