OAK BARRELS 3 LITER FOR WHISKEY OR SPIRITS

About this barrel

A 3 liter oak barrel for whiskey or other spirits sits between a tiny 2L and a standard 5L. You still get fast aging, plus a little more spirit per batch. An independent eBay seller lists this new barrel at $48.00.

How long should whiskey sit in a 3 liter oak barrel?

There's no set answer. Mini barrels work fast because a lot of wood touches a small amount of liquid. Start tasting early and bottle it when you like the flavor.

• Soak it with water before the first fill so the wood seals.
• The listing doesn't give a char or toast level, so check with the seller.
• Check the photos to see whether a stand, spigot or bung is included.
• You can use this small aging barrel for bourbon, rum, tequila or barrel-aged cocktails.
