Thousand Oaks Barrel 1 Liter Mini Charred American Oak Bourbon Aging Barrel

About this barrel

Bourbon gets much of its color and sweetness from charred American oak. This Thousand Oaks Barrel 1 liter bourbon aging barrel brings that same wood to your countertop. It's listed new at $91.56 by an independent eBay seller.

What does a mini charred American oak barrel do to bourbon?

The char and oak add caramel-like sweetness and soften harsh edges. A 1L barrel puts a lot of wood against a little spirit, so changes show up quickly. Taste often and stop when you like it.

• Before first use: fill it with water and let the wood swell until it seals.
• Beyond bourbon: try white whiskey, rye or a batched Old Fashioned.
• Reuse: each later fill ages more slowly because the wood has less flavor left to give.
• Check the listing for a stand, a spigot and the exact char level.

A compact choice if you want to try barrel aging at home and keep the batches small.
