1 Liter Charred American Oak Aging Barrel With Wood Stand, Bung & Spigot

About this barrel

Here's a compact way to start aging at home: a 1 liter American oak barrel with stand and spigot, charred inside and sold new for $77.52 by an independent eBay seller. The bung seals the top, the wood stand keeps it steady, and the spigot makes tasting easy.

What's the first step before filling a new oak barrel?

Swell it. Fill the barrel with warm water and let it sit until any seeping stops, then drain it and add your spirit. This lets the staves expand and close small gaps.

• Speed: a 1L mini barrel ages far faster than large casks, so taste often.
• Flavor: charred American oak adds color and sweetness.
• Check: the title doesn't give the char level.
• Gift idea: a neat present for a whiskey fan.
