5 Gallon Oak Barrel, Wooden Whiskey Barrel & Wine Barrel, 20 Liter

About this barrel

A 5 gallon oak barrel is a practical size for home aging. This 20 liter listing is described as both a whiskey barrel and a wine barrel, and it is offered new at $372.67 by an independent eBay seller.

Is a 20 liter oak barrel right for aging whiskey at home?

At 20 liters it holds a meaningful batch, yet it still ages faster than a full-size barrel because more of the liquid touches the wood. Taste often instead of waiting for a fixed date.

• Swell a new barrel with water before filling so the staves can tighten up.
• Check the listing photos and description for char level, hardware and whether a stand is included.
• Use it for whiskey, wine or other spirits you want to age.
• Confirm the dimensions before you choose a spot for it.
