1L Unvarnished American White Oak Aging Barrel with Steel Hoops - Mini Keg

About this barrel

A 1L unvarnished American white oak aging barrel is about as small as home barrels get. This new mini keg has steel hoops and is listed at $94.18. Unvarnished means the wood has no lacquer coating, which some buyers prefer for a natural look.

What is a 1L American white oak aging barrel good for?

Quick experiments. A one-liter cask has a lot of wood in contact with a small amount of liquid, so it flavors spirits fast. Start tasting after just a few days.

• Small batches: try aging a single bottle of moonshine, rum or whiskey.
• Watch the oak: mini barrels can turn a spirit bitter if you leave it in too long.
• Swell first: soak the barrel with water until it stops leaking, then fill it.
• Check the listing: the char level and any included stand or spigot aren't confirmed here.
