2.5 Gallon Charred American White Oak Aging Barrel, 10 Liter Whiskey Barrel

About this barrel

Half the size of a standard 5 gallon cask, a 2.5 gallon whiskey barrel fits on a counter but still holds a batch worth sharing. This new 10 liter cask is charred American white oak, the traditional wood for bourbon-style aging.

How long should whiskey sit in a 2.5 gallon barrel?

There's no fixed time. Small barrels pull flavor quickly, so start tasting after a few weeks and bottle when you like it. Second and third fills move more slowly as the wood gives up its flavor.

• First step: fill it with hot or warm water and let it swell until it holds without leaking.
• Storage: keep it out of direct sun, and keep it topped up so the wood doesn't dry out between batches.
• Reuse: later fills can go to cocktails, beer or vinegar projects.
• Details: the char level isn't specified, so check the listing or ask the seller.
