Red Head Barrels Charred Oak Aging Barrel for Whiskey Rum Wine Home Bar

About this barrel

If you want to age spirits at your home bar, this Red Head Barrels charred oak aging barrel is made for whiskey, rum and wine. It's listed as new by an independent eBay seller for $206.99.

What size is this Red Head charred oak barrel?

The listing gives the size only as "other," so check the item details or ask the seller for the exact capacity. Size matters a lot: smaller barrels age spirits faster, and larger ones change things more slowly.

• Before filling: soak the barrel with water so the wood swells and seals.
• Spirit choices: the title names whiskey, rum and wine. Many people keep one barrel for one kind of drink so flavors don't mix.
• Char: it's described as charred, but the level isn't given. Ask if you have a preference.
• Taste often: pull a small sample every week or so to follow how it develops.
