Hand Carved Oak Wood Decorative Wine Barrel Whiskey Cask Signed Ben Shaw Vintage

About this barrel

A signed piece stands apart from mass-produced decor, and the title of this hand carved decorative wine barrel says it's signed Ben Shaw. It looks part wine barrel, part whiskey cask, and an independent eBay seller lists the vintage oak piece at $399.99.

What should I ask about a signed, hand carved oak cask?

Ask where the signature is and whether the seller knows anything about the carver. The listing doesn't state the condition, so ask for close-up photos of the carving and finish.

• Confirm the dimensions, since the size is listed as "other."
• Check whether it's hollow, sealed or purely decorative.
• Look for cracks or worn detail in the carved areas.
• Display it in a bar area, living room or wine nook.
