Wooden Wine Barrel

About this barrel

With any secondhand cask, it pays to know what you're getting before you buy, and that goes for this used oak wine aging barrel listed at $90.00. The title only says Wooden Wine Barrel, so the details are in the seller's photos and notes.

What should you ask the seller about a used wine aging barrel?

Ask what it held last, how long it has been empty and whether it holds water now. Those three answers tell you more than any title can.

• Capacity: ask for liters or dimensions if they aren't in the description.
• Interior: ask whether the inside is toasted, charred or plain oak.
• Hardware: check whether a spigot, bung or stand is included.
• Pickup or shipping: check the listing for delivery options.
