1 Liter Charred American Oak Aging Barrel with Wood Stand, Bung & Spigot

About this barrel

When you compare mini casks, notice that this 1 liter charred American oak aging barrel names its wood: charred American oak, the same species that gives bourbon its sweetness. It comes with a wood stand, bung and spigot and is listed new on eBay for $84.40.

Why does American oak matter for home aging?

American oak is known for vanilla, coconut and caramel notes, and charring the inside makes them stronger. That makes it a natural fit for bourbon, rye and dark rum.

• The listing doesn't give the exact char level, so ask the seller if it matters to you.
• Fill it with hot water first to tighten the staves.
• The small size means it ages quickly, so taste every few days.
• Keep it full between batches so it doesn't dry out.
