1L Distillery Grade Charred Oak Aging Barrel for Whiskey, Rum & Wine

About this barrel

A 1L charred oak aging barrel is one of the quickest ways to give homemade or store-bought spirits a barrel-aged edge. This new barrel is listed as distillery grade and suits whiskey, rum or wine. Its charred interior adds color and toasty notes.

How fast does a 1L charred oak aging barrel age whiskey?

Much faster than a full-size cask, because more of the liquid touches wood. Taste it every week or so, since a small barrel can make a spirit oaky sooner than you'd expect.

• Fill it with water first and let the staves swell until the leaks stop.
• The char level isn't specified. Check the listing for details.
• Confirm whether a stand, bung or spigot is included.
• After a few batches the barrel mellows and works well for longer, gentler aging or for finishing cocktails.
