CASKET antique oak barrel decanter vtg small tavern keg whiskey beer bentwood

About this barrel

This antique oak barrel decanter is shaped like a small tavern keg, the kind once used to serve whiskey or beer across a bar counter. The seller calls it a casket and lists bentwood construction, a nod to how coopers bent wood into shape for small vessels.

How do you tell if an antique oak barrel decanter is truly old?

Look at the tool marks and patina in the photos, and at how the bands and staves have aged. A title can't prove authenticity, so read the description closely and message the seller with questions.

• Size and capacity aren't listed here. Check the measurements in the listing.
• Ask whether a stopper, bung or tap comes with it.
• Inspect the bentwood for splits or old repairs.
• If you want to fill it, swell the wood with water first, and expect that an old piece may still seep.
