Vintage Soviet Russian Ukrainian Crimea Yalta Massandra Wine Cask Wooden Barrel

About this barrel

Collectors looking for a Massandra oak wine barrel will know the name of the historic winery near Yalta on the Crimean coast. This little wooden cask is described as vintage and Soviet-era. Its condition is listed as new other (see details), and the seller's notes explain what that means for this one.

What should I check before buying a vintage Massandra cask?

Start with the size and markings. The listing doesn't give a capacity, so use the photos to judge dimensions, stamps and any branding.

• Zoom in on the hoops and staves to look for gaps or dry wood.
• Ask whether a tap, bung or stand comes with it.
• If you plan to fill it, soak it in water first so the oak swells tight.
• As decor, it fits a wine cellar shelf, a tasting room or a collection of Eastern European pieces.
