5L Wine Barrel Bar Kitchen Wooden Whiskey Beer Aging Barrel with Base & Faucet

About this barrel

Home brewers who want to add oak character to a stout or porter can start with this 5L wine barrel with base and faucet. The new oak cask is listed for whiskey, beer and wine, and the built-in faucet makes it easy to pull samples or pour right at a kitchen counter or bar.

Can you age beer in a 5 liter wooden barrel?

Yes, but it's different from aging spirits. Beer has less alcohol, so keep the barrel clean, fill it all the way and taste often so the oak doesn't overpower the malt.

• Swell first: fill it with water until the staves seal.
• Faucet check: watch for drips during the water soak.
• Sanitation: plan how you'll clean it between batches.
• Size: 5L holds a couple of growlers' worth, which makes a good test batch.
