About this barrel
An oak barrel for aging cocktails is a bartender favorite, and at 20 liters you can rest a big batch for a whole party season. This new vertical oak cask comes with a faucet and bracket, and the eBay seller lists it at $95.50.
Which drinks work in an oak barrel for aging cocktails?
Spirit-forward recipes with no juice or dairy hold up best. Think Manhattans, Negronis, Boulevardiers and Old Fashioneds, mixed without ice.
- Mix the batch ahead of time and fill a pre-swelled barrel completely.
- Taste weekly, since vermouth and other aromatized wines can change faster than straight spirits.
- Serve through the faucet over fresh ice, then garnish.
- Rinse it well before switching back to whiskey, rum or brandy.
The larger volume changes slowly, so you have time to catch the sweet spot.
