Hokkaido Mizunara Oak Whisky Aging Barrel 5L Japanese Medium Char Mini Cask

About this barrel

This Hokkaido Mizunara oak whisky aging barrel is a 5L mini cask with a medium char. An independent eBay seller lists it as new at $660. Whisky fans prize Japanese Mizunara oak, and a small cask lets you experiment with it at home.

How fast does a 5L Mizunara mini cask age whisky?

Quickly. In a small barrel more of the liquid touches wood, so taste often, even weekly. Don't wait months the way you would with a full-size cask.

• Swell the cask with water first and check for drips before adding spirit.
• A medium char balances toasty sweetness against how much the wood gives off.
• Try finishing a favorite bourbon, rye or blended whisky.
• Check the listing for whether a stand, spigot and bung are included.

Once a fill reaches the flavor you want, bottle it and refill. Later batches pick up oak more gently. Your order is covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee.
