5 Gallon Oak Barrel Wooden Whiskey Wine Barrel 20L for Aging Spirits Beer Batch

About this barrel

A 5 gallon oak barrel sits in the sweet spot for home distillers and winemakers: big enough for a real batch, small enough to manage on a shelf or stand. This new 20L wooden barrel is listed on eBay at $383.31 and pitched for aging whiskey, wine, spirits or beer.

How long does a 5 gallon oak barrel take to age spirits?

Smaller barrels expose more liquid to wood, so they age faster than full-size casks, while a 20L barrel works more slowly than a mini one. Start tasting every few weeks rather than following a fixed schedule.

• Prep: fill with water and let the oak swell before adding spirits.
• Char: the char level isn't stated, so check the listing or ask the seller.
• Batches: wine and beer suit this size well, too.
• Hardware: confirm whether a spigot, bung or stand is included.
